Booking

  • Book through the parent or carer for under-18s, never the child.
  • Agree time, place, price and what happens if it rains or someone cancels.
  • Send a short written confirmation (email is fine).
  • Have a simple cancellation rule, for example 24 hours' notice.

Insurance

  • Get public liability insurance (covers injury to others or damage).
  • Think about professional indemnity (covers claims about your advice).
  • Check the venue's rules and if they need to see your cover.
  • Keep a first aid kit and know the address for emergency services.

Session notes

  • Write the date, focus, what went well and what to work on next.
  • Keep notes short and about football. No health or private details.
  • Share progress with the parent, not just the player.
  • Use our 1-to-1 coach tools (saved on your device only).

Coaching qualifications

The FA's first step is the Introduction to Coaching Football course (it replaced the old FA Level 1). You need to be 16 or over and hold the FA Safeguarding Children and an FA first aid qualification first. The next step is the UEFA C Licence.

Course details change. Always check the FA website. We Are Matchday is independent and not endorsed by The FA.
